Hello World From Kharites,
where I will try to explain some of the reasons behind this website.

Creativity + Innovation + Constrains

There are many benefits:

  • It encourages creativity both at the computer and away from it
  • It's like a code kata for design
  • You can easily experiment with cutting-edge CSS3 features or just learn CSS2
  • You'll learn how to build a style foundation for other designs in other applications
Geoffrey Grosenbach, Topfunky Corporation 1

This is the first article on my new website, which went through a complete overhaul. It is also powered by an open source project I've been playing around with... Kharites ( check it out , you may find it interesting!)

Anyway, my biggest inspiration was topfunky (Geoffrey Grosenbach) with the way he has setup his peepcode blog... Here he explains what motivates him and the reasons behind a completely different look and feel for each of his articles. (See in the peepcode blog archive. ) These are also the main premises of Kharites! (different look and feel for each article.)

This is a big coincidence since I started working on this project before this talk... But it happens to describe my motivation... or at least part of it.

I recommend it in case you haven't seen it:

Neal Ford, "Creativity & Constraint" 2010 rails talk.

It is a very inspiring keynote, but most of all, the part where he shows a video where Jack White ( from the band White Stripes ) talks about creativity as a life style (min => "14:10" is a must!)

He talks about how forcing yourself can force creativity and how building tension will force you jump into new levels. Think about that!

When the table is all set, nice and perfect, nothing is going to happen!

Jack White, White Stripes 2

Before there were blogs we had websites. Beautiful, random websites that felt more like a zine - one page looking nothing like the one before or after it.

“Why the Lucky Stiff” poses with his nonconformist certificate

Click the photo to see it on its original Flickr page.

Jason Santa Maria does something similar on his webiste. checkout his articles archives... is crazy, awesome! For me, he is one of the most talented web designers on the planet.

Finally I just like to belive I'm one of the Nonconformists...

Not just because I don't have (or want) a Mac but because I belive in standing up for what I believe despite what anyone else thinks... I belive Nonconformist are Highly Creative People, avoiding the “herd” mentality. A creative person is a rebel, an instigator of change. Someone who breaks the old mold or, better yet, makes a new one.

All these are some of the reasons why I decided to move from my old WordPress publishing platform and build my own.

I hope this will motivate me to write more frequently about a lot of things I learn that I would like to share.

1 Topfunky (Geoffrey Grosenbach) about peepcode blog.

2 Jack White from White Stripes talks about creativity as a life style.

3 Airbag Industries wrote on the old days when blogs were designed like zines.
